Absolute pressure vs gauge pressure is an important distinction to understand in fields such as fluid dynamics and various industrial applications. Absolute pressure refers to the measurement against vacuum or absolute zero pressure, while gauge pressure refers to the difference between atmospheric pressure and the pressure being measured. The easiest way to distinguish these two pressures is by their zero points: absolute pressure uses absolute zero as its reference, whereas gauge pressure considers atmospheric pressure as its starting point. Because atmospheric pressure varies, gauge pressure readings may not be accurate. In contrast, absolute pressure is constant and firm.

More Pressure Measurement Solutions Knowing the relationship between these two pressures is defined by a formula that factors the reference pressure. This understanding allows accurate use of relative pressure sensors, vacuum pressure formulas, and different pressure measurement techniques in a wide range of practical situations.

Absolute Pressure What Is Absolute Pressure? Absolute pressure is the total pressure exerted by a liquid or gas, measured against an absolute vacuum or absolute zero pressure. In other words, it is the sum of gauge pressure and atmospheric pressure. It is denoted with the subscript "abs": P Abs It is an essential parameter in various scientific and engineering applications where pressure relative to absolute vacuum is important. The pressure sensor manufacturer seals a large vacuum behind the sensing diaphragm to produce a complete . So if you open the process pressure connection of an absolute pressure transmitter in air, it will read true barometric pressure. Absolute pressure transmitter Units Of Absolute Pressure Absolute pressure is usually measured in units such as pascals (pa), pounds absolute per square inch (psia), or bars (bar). Other units used include millimeters of mercury (mmHg) and atmospheres (atm).
