New electricity rates: how much does it cost the Spanish industry?

The entry into force of the new tariff system since June 1 (we tell you how you can save with the new electricity bill model ) has caused the reorganization of collection and has also led to an increase in costs for the industry . Transportation and distribution tolls have been separated from the part destined for system creditors or charges.

Within the electricity bill there are various elements. One of them is the electricity Phone Number List access rate (also known as tolls). Sample of 728 supply points
Grupo ASE has carried out a study on a sample of 728 supply points in different parts of the country with the aim of knowing what the economic impact that this reorganization of the schedule has had on the Spanish economy. The results show an increase of 16% on average for Spanish companies , with the automotive sector being the most affected, with a 21.7% increase in costs.

This new electrical calendar with periods is intended to manage demand through economic promotion according to the schedule. In this new arrangement, the sections are one or two hours long, something totally insufficient for the energy processes of the industry. "Companies cannot maneuver," says Ramón López, manager of Grupo ASE . And, in fact, “the variation in the shape detected in the demand curve is between 0 and 0.1%; It is practically zero ,” he emphasizes.




Currently, tolls cover the costs of transportation and distribution. And with the charges, other costs are met such as the premiums to the old special regime (wind, photovoltaic...) or the debt generated in the past. However, “despite this classification, the cost has risen ,” says López.

The most affected sectors of Spanish industry
Furthermore, to all these circumstances, we also add the fact that, currently, the price of electricity is very high for various reasons, which represents 60% of the bill. The remaining 40% is due to access fees. This is where the modification has been established and where companies' costs have risen.

By sectors, the most affected has been the automotive sector, with an increase of 21.7%; followed by the paper and cardboard or plastic industry, with an increase of 20.8% and 18.3%, respectively. Key sectors for the entire industry such as rail transport and food have also suffered a strong impact, with an increase of 17.1% and 17.3% each. On the opposite side, the sectors that have increased the least in cost have been mining and the agricultural sector, with an increase of 7.1% and 7.8%.
