It is 77 years since the liberation of concentration camps like Mauthausen. Félix Bolaños, Minister of Democratic Memory, and Raquel Sánchez, Minister of Mobility; They preside over an event that pays tribute to the Spanish victims of Nazism

77 years after the liberation of the Mauthausen concentration camp, the Government has carried out a tribute to the Spanish victims of Nazism. The event was chaired by ministers Félix Bolaños and Raquel Sánchez, who dedicated some emotional words to the Spaniards who suffered in the concentration camps.

The Minister of Democratic Memory has related the tribute to the victims of the current war in Ukraine: "Their memory alerts us today against all forms of totalitarianism, against ideologies and speeches that constitute a serious threat to national Special Data and international coexistence." He highlighted the importance of remembering the victims of the past, since they contributed to "the construction of the Europe of democracies in which we live today, a continent more united and stronger than ever in the face of Putin, whose war makes us return to that continent of 80 years ago". Bolaños thanked the work of Amical de Mauthausen, an organization that participated in the coordination of the event.

At the event, the writer Manuel Rivas read the Mauthausen oath, written after the liberation by people who survived this concentration camp. A floral offering also took place, during which it was possible to enjoy The Marsh Soldiers , a musical piece composed by prisoners from the Börgermoor camp. The melody, recognized as an anthem of resistance to Nazism, has been performed live by violinist Rocía Cabello.

Raquel Sánchez, for her part, has taken the opportunity to vindicate the importance of historical memory: "Democratic memory concerns everyone. And it hurts me that there are those who despise it, those who want to hide it in the attic of history as if it had never existed. It hurts me that there are those who ignore this sacrifice to which we will never do enough justice. Only by looking at the past will we be able to have a dignified future. Only by shielding the memory of what happened will we be able to improve as a society. This is the great lesson we have learned ".
