   The context of the links (both internal and backlinks from external sites) is obviously always fundamental. The link must lead to clicks, otherwise it has no value in the eyes of Google . And to attract clicks it must be justified and not only that: it must be USEFUL in that exact context .    leads to a 404 page that no longer exists or is irrelevant is penalizing .  Do not use tools to create automatic internal links Unless you are an SEO expert, don't use automatic tools to insert internal links, you only risk getting hurt.
